Happy (Healthy!) Halloween! Themed yoga class calms holiday jitters

Kids at Peaceful Planet Yoga of Sag Harbor, New York got their spook on in costume for a special 45-minute Halloween-themed class led by studio owner, Kristin King Davey, who dressed up as, “SuperYogi” for the event.

"We had a lot of witches and a ninja,” says Davey of the eight through ten year old crowd.

Kids shook off any fears they had about the dark, scary and creepy holiday with a round of...
yoga freeze dance to the Monster Mash tune.
“Masks can be really frightening. We discussed how there’s no such thing as monsters and how we can make ourselves feel better,” says Davey.
The holiday theme continued with yoga poses practiced to Harry Potter Music. A special guest participated as well.
“I brought my skeleton in and we put him in to yoga poses, so we could see what our bones look like in postures,” says Davey.
Asana work explored Bat, Moon, Half Moon, Witch on a Broomstick (Chair Pose), Spider and Mummy Pose for which students curl up sideways and grip on corner of their mats and then roll themselves up.
“We also practiced Whoo Breaths, and held our exhales extra long,” says Davey.
